Deacs Set for Final Road Game of the Regular Season

With a win on Thursday at NC State, the Wake Forest women’s basketball team would tie the most ACC road wins it has gotten in a single season and the most since the 2017-18 season.
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team will be in search of its fourth ACC road win of the season Thursday with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (ET) at Reynolds Coliseum.
With a win on Thursday, the Deacs would match the highest ACC win total in the Megan Gebbia era and be more than the last two seasons combined. Additionally, the win would be the first win at NC State since Feb. 19, 2017 when the Deacs won 89-77. Additionally, regardless of the result for Wake Forest and Florida State on Thursday night, the Sunday matchup at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum will be a winner take all for the No. 14 seed in the ACC Tournament.
The Demon Deacons (14-14, 4-12 ACC) are off to their best start in the Megan Gebbia era, coming off the third ACC road win of the season and will also be in search of a signature NET victory to its resume late in the season. In the first 28 games, they have been propelled by 17.0 assists per game which ranks 31st in the country and fourth in the ACC. The Deacs have seen the emergence of sophomore forward Grace Oliver this season as she is averaging a team-high 13.9 points per game and also ranking 10th nationally with 59.8 percent shooting from the floor which ranks first in the ACC. Going into Thursday, the Deacs ranked nationally and sixth in the ACC, holding opponents to just 38.7 shooting from the field and also ranking 39th nationally in field goal percentage offense which is fourth in the ACC while also ranking 83rd with 26.8 defensive rebounds per game.
The Wolfpack (18-9, 11-5 ACC) enter the final week of the regular season in a heated battle for the double-bye spot for the upcoming ACC Tournament, currently claiming the final double-bye spot if the season were to end today. Additionally, the Pack are a projected No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament and have been a projected No. 6 to No. 8 seed throughout a majority of the season. NC State has been elite on the glass this season, leading the ACC and ranking sixth nationally with 43.4 rebounds per game and are led by forward Khamil Pierre who is 11th nationally and second in the ACC with 8.6 rebounds per game. She also leads the ACC with 18 double doubles this season which is two off the national lead. The Wolfpack also have one of the best scoring offenses in the league as their 77.6 points per game ranks 28th nationally and third in the ACC.

Wake Forest finished with 24 assists on 28 made baskets for the contest (85.7 percent). In 28 games this season, the Demon Deacons have totaled 477 assists on 701 field goals (68.0 percent) which would mark the highest percentage in a single season within the Megan Gebbia era.
The Demon Deacons are averaging 17.0 assists, fourth in the ACC behind Virginia's 17.9 and Duke's 17.5 assists. Additionally, the Deacs are on pace to have the fourth-most assists in program history and the 17.0 assists per game currently ranks fourth in program history:

The Deacs did an excellent job of moving the ball last season, as they assisted on 394 of 667 made baskets this season (59.1 pct.). This was the highest assist percentage in the Gebbia era and the assist percentage ranks in the top 70 percent in the nation according to HerHoopStats.
In 2023-24, the Deacs assisted 404 of 694 made field goals (58.2 percent).
Forcing Them Over
The Demon Deacons forced the Eagles into 10 turnovers, converting 12 points off of those takeaways. Wake Forest has forced 10 or more takeaways 94 times in the last 97 games, a stretch dating back to January of 2022.
Through 28 games, the Demon Deacons have forced 14.0 turnovers per game.
Owning the Paint
The Demon Deacons had another excellent game in the paint, with 32 points posted inside while allowing Boston College to score 20, a 12-point deficit.

Grace is Historically Efficient
So far this season, sophomore forward Grace Oliver has been one of the most efficient players in the country, leading the ACC in field goal percentage and ranking 10th nationally, shooting 59.9 percent from the field:
Additionally, she has had one of the best seasons in program history as her 59.9 percent ranks sixth in Wake Forest history.
In a win over Gardner-Webb in December, Oliver finished the night going a perfect 14-for-14 from the floor, setting the ACC and Wake Forest record for field goal attempts without a miss. The previous ACC record was 12-of -12 from the floor by four players and was last done by Kalista Walters (Pittsburgh) against Chicago State on Dec. 31, 2017.
Additionally, this is just the ninth known occurrence in NCAA history of a player making 14 or more shots without a miss and first since Tinara Moore (CMU) on Jan. 9, 2016.

Additionally, she recorded a new career-high with 30 points, breaking her previous high of 21 points against Mercer on Nov. 13. It also marks the first 30-plus point game by a Wake Forest forward since Dearica Hamby tallied 32 points against Georgia Tech on Feb. 28, 2015.

- The Deacs knocked down a season-high tying 12 threes, going 12-for-27 from deep, with five Demon Deacons contributing to the total. Carter paved the way for the downtown, while also adding three steals and two blocks against the Eagles (5-25, 1-16 ACC).
- Carter finished the afternoon with a season-high 19 points including going 5-of-7 from behind the arc. 16 of her 19 points came in the second half, going 6-of-7 from the field in the final 20 minutes of the game.
- Leading the Wake Forest offense, Oliver notched her second double-double of the season and third of her career, with 24 points and a career-high tying 15 boards. Additionally, the Norwell, Mass.-native helped the Deacs to 11-for-14 shooting from the stripe, as she went 4-of-5 from the line.

- Additionally, the Deacs had its best three-point performance of the season, knocking down a season-high 12 total threes with contributions from five different Demon Deacons.
- Wake Forest's offense saw five Deacs in the double digits, with junior guard/forward Mary Carter totaling the team-high of 15 points, seven rebounds and shooting 3-of-5 from the three. Freshman Grace Galbavy posted a career-high 11 points, with a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.
