The senior secured two singles wins and a doubles victory as he led his country to the second round of qualifying.
BENGALURU, India - Wake Forest men's tennis standout DK Suresh Ekambaram delivered one of the most significant performances of his young career on Sunday, clinching a decisive singles victory to lift India into the second qualifying round of the Davis Cup.
With the tie against the Netherlands hanging in the balance, Suresh rose to the occasion on home soil, winning his singles match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4), to secure the series-clinching point for India. The victory capped a remarkable weekend for the senior, who recorded two singles wins and a doubles victory as India overcame a deep Dutch lineup featuring multiple top-200 ATP players.
Suresh's composure under pressure proved to be the difference. After splitting the opening singles on day one, India entered Sunday needing strong performances across the board. Suresh responded by breaking serve late in the first set and surging to a tiebreak victory in the second to seal the tie and spark celebrations inside the arena.
The performance marked Suresh's second singles win of the weekend and underscored his growing presence on the international stage. Earlier in the tie, he earned a straight-sets victory over top-100 player Jesper de Jong before teaming with Yuki Bhambri in doubles, where the Indian duo also came through in a tight three-set battle.
With the win, India (#33) recorded one of the biggest Davis Cup upsets in its history over the No. 6-ranked Netherlands team and will advance to take on South Korea (#22) in an away tie in mid-September.
For Suresh, the weekend adds another milestone to an already impressive resume as he now prepares to lead Wake Forest to its second-consecutive ITA National Team Indoor title later this week.
