Deacs Wrap Day One at Desimone Invitational

Junior Tom Haberer is tied for sixth going into the final round.
DALY CITY, Calif. – Behind a strong second-round performance from junior Tom Haberer, the Wake Forest men's golf team has completed two rounds against a nationally ranked field at the Desimone Invitational. Through 36 holes, the Demon Deacons are tied for 12th place and hold a team score of 569 (-7), just one stroke behind No. 4 Texas and No. 26 Arizona.
A total of nine teams in the field, including Wake Forest, sit inside the top 35 nationally.
Pacing the Deacs on day one, Haberer turned in a pair of under-par rounds. In round two, the junior made the turn at four-under before finishing with a five-under 67. Haberer enters the final round tied for sixth, six shots off the individual lead.
Senior Jakob Melin posted his best round of the day in the opening round, carding four birdies and an eagle. Melin enters the final round tied for 39th at one-under par.
Two Deacs finished Monday at four-over par, as Boyd Owens and Lorenzo Rodriguez each sit in a tie for 70th place.

Final Round Tee Times
Teams will play the final round on Tuesday, March 10, with tee times starting at 12:50 p.m. (ET). The Deacs will be paired with players from Texas and USC.

"Lots of birdies and some good stuff from the guys today. This is the type of course that if the putter stays hot, you can have a good day. We didn't play that bad from what I saw, just a little better decisions and speed on the greens putting. We will play well tomorrow. Sometimes with a shotgun, it's hard to start the round. Tomorrow, going off the backside we will have birdie holes right out of the gate. The Deacs will be ready. Go Deacs!"
