Demon Deacons Open Competition at Duke Invitational, Hurricane Alumni Invitational

Junior Rocky Hansen placed second in the men’s 5000 meters, while graduate student Issy Goldstein and freshman Victoria Rodriguez finished on the podium in the women;’s 3000-meter steeplechase.
DURHAM, N.C. and CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Highlighted by three Demon Deacons securing podium finishes, the Wake Forest track and field team opened competition at both the Duke Invitational and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Friday night.
Freshman Victoria Rodriguez recorded a second-place finish in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a personal-best time of 10:13.77. The Mercer Island, Wash., finished the race nearly 18 seconds faster than her previous best time, which she set at the Raleigh Relays.
Graduate student Issy Goldstein finished right behind Rodriguez as she logged a season-best time of 10:16.27 to secure third place. With the result, the Ambler, Pa., jumped into fifth in Wake Forest history in the steeplechase.
In his first meet of the season, junior Rocky Hansen placed second in the men's 5000 meters after posting a time of 13:29.53.
Meanwhile, at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, junior Seren Rodgers concluded the first day of the heptathlon in fourth place, totaling 3,226 points over the first four events.
