Top-Seeded Demon Deacons Sweep Navy to Advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

Wake Forest will now take on Old Dominion tomorrow at 5 p.m. for a spot in the Super Regionals.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The top-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team opened NCAA Tournament play in dominant fashion Friday evening, defeating Navy, 4-0, at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex to advance to the second round of the Winston-Salem Regional.
With the victory, the Demon Deacons (31-3) extended their nation-leading home winning streak to 47-consecutive matches dating back to 2024 and continued their postseason consistency under head coach Tony Bresky, advancing past the opening round for the 12th-consecutive tournament. The win also marked the Deacs' 242nd home decision since 2013, a mark that also leads the country.
Wake Forest will now face Old Dominion tomorrow (May 2) at 5 p.m. with a trip to the Super Regionals on the line. The Monarchs took down Gardner-Webb earlier Saturday afternoon, 4-0.
The Deacs will look to qualify for the round of 16 for the 11th time in program history, the ninth time since 2015 and for the fourth time in five years with a victory over Old Dominion tomorrow. If they advance, the Demon Deacons would host the Super Regional on Friday, May 8 at 5 p.m.
Deacs in the NCAA Tournament
Wake Forest once again set the tone early in doubles, claiming the opening point for the 23rd-consecutive match and 31st time this season with wins on courts two and three.
On the third doubles court, junior Luca Pow and sophomore Charlie Robertson reunited and picked up their 11th win of the season together as they downed Kim/Garcia (6-2). The victory also marked Pow's 91st career doubles win, bringing him to within one win of being tied for sixth in program history.
Career Doubles Wins - Wake Forest History
Freshman Mees Rottgering and sophomore Kacper Szymkowiak stayed unbeaten with a win over Ayinala/Kim, 6-3, on court two to clinch the point. The pair improved to 13-0 together, including a perfect 9-0 record in ACC play. Recently named Third Team All-ACC, the duo has been a consistent force in Wake Forest's doubles dominance.
Wake Forest carried the momentum into singles, where it took five first sets and was potentially en route to a sixth as the match finished in just 90 minutes following wins on courts four, five and six.
In less than an hour into his match, Dominick Mosejczuk maintained his perfect spring record with a dominant win over Steve Nguyen, 6-2, 6-0, on court six. The freshman improved to 13-0 in his debut season and has yet to drop a set, continuing one of the most impressive starts in recent program history. Mosejczuk's consistency has been a major asset when inserted into the lineup.
Sophomore Joaquin Guilleme responded in strong fashion with a win over J.J. Etterbeek, 6-1, 6-3, on court five. The sophomore secured his team-leading 23rd singles victory of the spring while bouncing back after his previous outing where he suffered just his fourth loss of the spring. Making his NCAA Tournament debut, Guilleme continued to showcase his consistency.
Seconds later, No. 125 Aryan Shah delivered in his NCAA Tournament debut, clinching the match by defeating Tommy Kim, 6-2, 6-2, on court four. The freshman, who clinched the ACC Championship in Wake Forest's last outing, earned his ninth collegiate victory. Shah has continued to elevate his level in the postseason, providing a key boost as he continues to grow into the college game.

Tomorrow's Matchup vs. Old Dominion
The Demon Deacons will take on a Sun Belt champion squad making its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Monarchs come into the match with a 21-6 record and an ITA team ranking of No. 57, continuing a stretch of consistent success at the national level. This also marks their second straight appearance in the Winston-Salem Regional. Historically, Wake Forest has held the upper hand in the matchup, leading the all-time series 21-5.

How It Happened
- Wake Forest jumped out to an early advantage in doubles, going up a break on all three courts and maintaining control throughout.
- On court three, Pow and Robertson secured a 6-2 victory to put the Demon Deacons in position before Rottgering and Szymkowiak followed on court two with a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point.
- The match on court one, featuring Delgado and DK Suresh, went unfinished at 5-5.
