Demon Deacons Headed to Third-Straight Super Regional After Defeating Old Dominion

Wake Forest will host either 16-seed UCF or Florida at the Wake Forest Tennis Center on May 8 at 5p.m.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the ninth time in the last 11 tournaments, the top-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals following its 4-0 victory over Old Dominion Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Demon Deacons (32–3) continued to prove themselves as the nation's premier program. Wake Forest extended its nation-leading home winning streak to 48 consecutive matches, a remarkable run that dates back to 2024 and is the longest such streak in the country, with one more home opportunity next week.
Additionally, the win marked the Deacs' 243rd home victory since 2013, another figure that leads the nation, and showcases the program's long-standing success at the Leighton Courts.
The result also highlighted the program's sustained excellence under head coach Tony Bresky as the Deacs have now advanced to the Round of 16 in three-straight NCAA Tournaments and four times in the last five seasons, a testament to both consistency and high-level performance in the postseason.
Wake Forest will now await the winner of the match between the (16) UCF Knights and Florida Gators in Orlando. The Deacs will host the round of 16 match next Friday, May 8, at 5 p.m., with a berth in the national quarterfinals at stake.
Next week will also mark the fourth time the Demon Deacons have hosted an NCAA Super Regional, with Bresky's squad capitalizing in each of its previous three opportunities by advancing in 2019, 2024, and 2025.
Deacs in the NCAA Tournament
Wake Forest once again seized early momentum in doubles, securing the opening point for the 24th-consecutive match, and for the 32nd time this season, with wins on courts one and three.
Aryan Shah and Luca Pow quickly added another dominant doubles win with a victory over Hamrouni/Obermair, 6-0, on court three. The pair improved to 6-1 together, while the win also marked Pow's 92nd career doubles victory, tying him for sixth in program history.
Not long after, the nation's top-ranked doubles pair of Andrew Delgado and DK Suresh Ekambaram clinched the point with a win over Nelson/Oliver de Sardan, 6-1, on court one. The duo improved to 13-0 together after being named First Team All-ACC, continuing their dominance at the top of the lineup. The victory also marked Suresh's 98th career doubles win, while Delgado remained perfect across both singles and doubles this spring.
Career Doubles Wins - Wake Forest History
With the early advantage in hand, the Demon Deacons carried that momentum into singles play, where they claimed courts two, three and six to advance to the next round.
No. 38 Mees Rottgering earned his first-career NCAA Tournament victory with a win over Felix Obermair, 6-2, 6-1, on court two. The ACC Freshman of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP improved to 15-3 on the season, extending his win streak to four matches. Pow, the No. 28-ranked player in the country, remained red-hot with a win over Piet Steveker, 6-0, 6-3, on court three. The junior improved to 19-3 this spring while extending his winning streak to 14 matches, having not lost since Feb. 15.
The Englishmen also stayed perfect in NCAA Tournament singles matches at 9-0 for his career, while moving closer to multiple milestones, including his 31st win of the academic year and the 97th of his career, both marks that continue to cement his place among the program's most consistent performers.
Doing the clinching honors, Joaquin Guilleme continued his strong form with a win over Aryan Saleh, 6-2, 6-0, on court six. After earning a victory in his NCAA Tournament debut against Navy, the sophomore improved to a team-leading 24 singles wins this spring against just four losses. Guilleme has remained a steady presence down the stretch, building off a strong conference campaign.
