Wake Forest Field Hockey Earns Spot on National Television

The Deacs match against Virginia on Oct. 16 will be streamed on ACC Network.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest Field Hockey will face ACC competitor Virginia in front of a national televised audience on the ACC Network, as announced by ESPN Wednesday.
The Deacs will open their season at home against Iowa and Michigan in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on August 28 and 30.
Wake Forest kicks off conference play on home turf with a Big Four matchup against the Duke Blue Devils on September 25.
The Demon Deacons will face Virginia on Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in the televised slate. Averill's squad last secured a home win against the Cavaliers on Mar. 27, 2020 with a 3-2 victory. The programs last met in 2025 in Charlottesville.
The previous year marked multiple program highs, as the Deacs remained undefeated at home for the first time since 2005. With their 10-0 record, Wake Forest earned ACC Regular Season Champs and finished the season 15-5.

This fall marks the Deacs' 56th season in program history, with multiple key players set to return. The Deacs are returning the ACC Offensive Player of the Year senior Mia Schoenbeck, ACC Defensive Player of the Year junior Mia Montag, and ACC Freshman of the year sophomore Reabetswe Phume. Additionally, eight freshmen will join the Deacs for this upcoming season.
Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 35th season at Wake Forest, having led Wake Forest to 19 NCAA tournament appearances and three-straight NCAA titles from 2002 to 2004. Averill has been awarded nine ACC Coach of the Year awards, including the most recent 2025 season.
