Wake Forest Alumni Represent USA in World Masters Hockey World Cup

Kasold, Romansky and Misselhorn competed under Head Coach Jen Averill during the late 90s and early 00s.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three former Wake Forest field hockey alumni represented the United States this past July at the World Masters Hockey World Cup in Schiedam and Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Kim Romansky '09 and Michelle Kasold '08 repped the stars and stripes for the O35 team competing in Schiedam, Netherlands. Romansky and Kasold competed in six matches over July 23 through July 31. Kasold was one of two captains for the U.S. team and recorded a goal against Ireland in pool play. The U.S. won matches against Paraguay (4-0), Ireland (1-0), and Scotland (3-2).
"Wake Forest Hockey instilled the values of lifelong teammates," said Romansky. "Coach Jen recruits her teams by choosing the best fitting players into a whole picture that we are individually blinded to at the start. Michelle and I were bonded as lifelong teammates for three years at Wake then continued on the same team in the Netherlands. 15 years later we were joined again as teammates when Michelle called me up and said don't miss this incredible opportunity. Representing Team USA in the Netherlands was nothing but a dream to play together again for our country in a country we both learned to love after Wake Forest."
"I thoroughly enjoyed playing with Team USA for the O35 Masters World Cup," said Kasold. "I love that I can still get out and compete on the world stage in the red, white, and blue even after getting older and having three kids. What made it even more special was to play with my former Wake teammate Kim Romansky. We played at the same club in the Netherlands after college and jumped at the chance to compete together again. I'm thankful for the opportunities to still play the sport I love and now share those experiences with my family."
Amanda Misselhorn '99 was the sole Wake Forest representative for team USA in the O45 matches played in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Misselhorn was one of two captains and competed in six matches from July 24 to July 31. The U.S. faced off against Belgium, Chile, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and Spain.
"Nothing will top my experience playing for Wake and Jen Averill, but this Masters World Cup reinvigorated my competitive spirit and made me so proud to represent the USA with other Demon Deacons," said Misselhorn. "I felt honored to wear USA across my chest, cheer on other Wake alumni and report back to my Wake teammates about what a fun week of hockey I was having. I'm thankful to USA Field Hockey and the World Masters Hockey for giving us this opportunity to compete. Hockey is a lifelong sport and I continue to be inspired by my teammates and by other Masters players."
