Three different Deacs recorded goals.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 3 Wake Forest field hockey team defeated No. 11 Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Bianca Rees-Gibbs recorded a brace.

Senior Ava Moore added a goal in the third quarter.

Junior Sarah Mudd earned her third goal of the season.

Sophomore goalie Ruby Butterfield recorded two saves and earned her sixth win of the season.

How It Happened

Wake got on the board first just two and a half minutes into the first quarter.
- Rees-Gibbs went 1v1 with the goalie and found the back of the cage
Rees-Gibbs recorded her second goal in the first quarter off a penalty corner.
- That goal became Rees-Gibbs' 10th on the season
Syracuse responded with one goal to end the first half.
In the third quarter, Wake recorded another goal off a penalty corner.
- Ava Moore earned her eighth goal on the season off a great pass from Mia Schoenbeck
Syracuse responded with another goal to end the third.
Wake scored the game-sealing goal with five minutes left to play in the fourth.
- Sarah Mudd recorded her third goal of the season
The Deacons finished with a 4-2 win.
With this win, head coach Jen Averill sits just three wins away from her 450th win as a Demon Deacon

"I thought it was a solid performance from the squad after Friday night. Our prep was to leave that one behind and let's move forward. I am pleased to see that when the game got tight, we continued to attack instead of falling away under that pressure. Pressure is everything in this game. It is either emotional or physical pressure. I think those are all great lessons that we are learning. Solid performance and super excited to see the distribution of goals again. Just pleased with the team's overall performance and the owning of possessions was solid."

The Deacs will head to Boston to face Boston College and No. 10 Harvard next weekend.
