Demon Deacons Add Declan Doherty as Video Analysis and Analytics Coordinator

The Belfast native joins the Demon Deacons after a successful two-year stint with Penn State women’s soccer.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's soccer head coach Bobby Muuss announced the addition of Declan Doherty to the Demon Deacons' coaching staff as the program's Video Analysis and Analytics Coordinator.
Doherty joins the Demon Deacons with extensive experience in performance analysis, coaching and player development at the collegiate, professional and academy levels in the United States and his native Northern Ireland.
"Declan is a tremendous addition to our program," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at both the collegiate and professional levels, and his work as our Video Analysis and Analytics Coordinator will strengthen our team's performance and each player's individual development. Video is such a valuable teaching tool, helping players see and understand the details that make a difference on the field. Declan will help us turn those insights into clear, actionable feedback, and we are excited about the impact he will have on our players and staff. I couldn't be more excited"
Most recently, Doherty served on the staff at Penn State, where he joined the Nittany Lions ahead of the 2024 season. During his time in Happy Valley, Doherty helped Penn State reach the NCAA Tournament in both of his seasons with the program, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2024. The Nittany Lions finished the 2024 campaign with a 15-7-3 overall record and followed that up with another double-digit win season.

Prior to Penn State, Doherty spent four seasons with Louisville's women's soccer program from 2019-23, serving as a coach analyst. During his time with the Cardinals, he helped Louisville make an NCAA Tournament appearance and contributed to the development of multiple All-ACC student-athletes. He played a key role in the development of Emina Ekic, who was named the 2021 ACC Player of the Year before becoming the fifth overall selection in the NWSL Draft.
Doherty also gained professional experience with Racing Louisville FC, where he served as an academy coach and coach analyst. From 2021-24, he held the title of Assistant Director of Coaching while helping develop players within the club's academy. In 2024, he also contributed to the senior team's strategy and performance analytics.
Doherty began his collegiate coaching career at Evansville, where he spent three seasons as an assistant coach and graduate assistant. He helped the Purple Aces reach the Missouri Valley Conference Championship match in 2016 and the MVC Semifinals in 2018. Before Evansville, he spent one season at Buffalo, helping the men's program post its first winning season since 2008.
A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Doherty began his coaching career in his home country. He served as the head coach of the Ulster University Jordanstown women's team, leading the squad to a 7-3-1 record and a National League championship in 2013. He later served as an assistant with the Queens University Belfast men's team.
Doherty earned a degree in sport and exercise science from Ulster Jordanstown in 2013. He also holds master's degrees in Public Service Administration from Evansville and Sport Administration from Louisville.
