Wake Forest Leads Field After Opening Round in Minnesota

LAKE ELMO, Minn. - After one round at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, the No. 7 Wake Forest women's golf team leads the field of 12 by eight strokes, with three Demon Deacons battling inside the top-5.
Wake Forest carded a number of impressive performances, with all three members of the freshmen class making their debuts. Ranked the No. 92 world amateur, Benedicte Brent-Petersen totaled six birdies and a bogey-free back nine, tied in T2 with junior Chloe Kovelesky. Freshman Havanna Torstensson slots in behind the two in T4, also with six birdies.
Kovelesky matched the birdie total from Brent-Petersen and Torstensson, carding five on the back nine alone. The three helped the Deacs to a competition-best 22 birdies, and individually are one shy of the leader.
Senior Macy Pate kicked off her year at even par, tallying the fewest bogeys among the Demon Deacons. Pate is inside the top-15, and one stroke out of the top-10. Freshman Vidhi Lakhawala made her Wake Forest debut at three-over-par, and sits T32 after 18 holes.
Round Two Next
The second round of three will begin at 10:20 a.m. ET with live scoring available via Scoreboard and live streaming via babygrandegolf.com. Wake Forest will tee off with Virginia and South Carolina.
