Wake Places Five Runners In Top 10

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Five Wake Forest cross country runners finished in the top 10 of the Carolina Cross Country Open Challenge Wednesday, October 13.

The Demon Deacon B-team competed in the event, led by freshman Marissa Derlaga, who placed 5th out of 50 runners with a time of 20:38 on the 5K course. Junior Britton Stackhouse ran the course in 21:02 to finish 6th. Lauren May, a sophomore, placed 7th with a time of 21:19. In 8th place, sophomore Ann Messner finished the event in 21:36, while junior Summer Shaw was Wake's final finisher in 9th place with a time of 21:41. Unattached runner Megan Coombs won the event with a time of 19:28.

The cross country team will next compete Saturday, October 16, at the Pre-NCAA Meet in Bloomington, IN.
