Deacs Finish Regular Season Strong

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The women's cross country team competed amongst 33 Division I teams, including 16 ranked teams, in the Pre-NCAA meet in Bloomington, IN October 16. The Deacons finished 14th with a total score of 419. Stanford earned top team honors at the event, designated as the Sam Bell Invitational, with 77 points.
Wake was paced again by Janelle Kraus, who was the team's top finisher at 17th. Kraus ran the 5K course in 17:46. Kara Wheeler of Colorado won the individual title with a 17:09 time. Deacon senior Jill Snyder clocked in at 18:13 and finished in 55th place. Junior Sara Day was close behind with a time of 18:18. Day listed at 64th, while Kelly Brady took 132nd with a time of 18:54. Valerie Waldron finished the course in 19:13, while Alison Anibaldi ran it in 19:23. Waldron and Anibaldi finished in 164th and 176th places, respectively. The Deacs' final finisher was Erin Haugh. Haugh registerd a time of 20:02 to take 208th place.
With the finish, Wake earned a national ranking of 19th heading into the ACC Championships November 1. The championships will be held at the University of North Carolina and is a joint men's and women's event.
