GREENVILLE, S.C.--The Wake Forest women's golf team is in first place after the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University on Friday.

As a team, the Deacons shot 295, good for seven over par. Texas, Auburn and Furman were tied for second at 306. Texas Christian rounded out the top five, shooting 307 in the first round.

Individually, freshman Maria Beautell is in first place after the first round of play, shooting a two under par 70. Freshman Nuria Clau is tied for fifth with Kristin Dufour of Texas, each shooting 73. Also in the top 10 for Wake Forest is senior Kelly Kirwin, who is in a six-way tie for eighth place in the tournament at 75.

The tournament will resume Saturday with the final round being played on Sunday.
