Aydin Advances in NCAA Singles Championship

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Wake Forest women's tennis senior Lule Aydin (Coopersburg, PA) won her first round match in the 1998 NCAA Singles Championship on Monday at the Courtney Tennis Center at the University of Notre Dame.
Aydin defeated Elizabeth Schmidt of UCLA in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the round of 32. She will face California's Amanda Augustus, the tournament's #3 seed, on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
With the victory, Aydin picked up her 10th consecutive singles victory and has now won 102 matches in her four-year career. She now owns a 34-13 singles record this season, the third highest single season win total in school history.
On the doubles side, Wake Forests top ranked duo of junior Nicoala Kaiwai (Wellington, New Zealand) and freshman Dorothee Kurz (Pforzheim, Germany) fell in the first round to Cal's team of Augustus and Amy Jensen, 6-2, 6-3. The team, ranked eighth in the nation, finishes the season with a 24-14 record.
