WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The second ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (8-1) scored three second half goals to defeat Wake Forest (6-6), 3-0, at Kentner Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It was the Tar Heels fourth consecutive win and the Deacons second loss in its last four games. After holding the Tar Heels scoreless during the first half, Wake Forest allowed North Carolina to score two of its three second half goals off penalty corners.
The first goal of the game went to Jana Toepel with 27:45 remaining in the game off one of 16 North Carolina penalty corners. The second Tar Heel goal also came off a penalty corner as Kate McDonald stuck the ball in the back of the net.
Wake Forest was not without its chances. The Deacons had 10 first half shots, but the North Carolina defense only allowed the Deacons six shots after the break.
Wake Forest will return to ACC competition on Tuesday night, Oct. 6. The Deacons will host Duke beginning at 7 p.m. in Kentner Stadium.
