WINSTON-SALEM, NC --- The Wake Forest field hockey team ranks 20th in the final STX/NFHCA Poll of the season. It's the first time that the Deacons have finished ranked among the top 20 since 1995. Wake Forest finished that season with a final national ranking of 14th.
The Deacons completed the regular season with an overall record of 10-8 and 1-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Wake Forest has assured itself of a winning season for the first time since 1995 as well. The Deacons had a final overall record of 11-7 that year.
The 1998 ACC Tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 5 in Charlottesville, Va. Wake Forest's first round opponent is Duke. The Deacons and Blue Devils have met 10 previous times in the tournament with Duke holding a 9-1 lead in the series. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.on the University of Virginia campus.
