Three Field Hockey Players Among NCAA Leaders

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Two of the nation's top 20 goal scorers are from Wake Forest University, while its goalkeeper ranks among the top five in two different categories.
Freshman Nienke van Ruiten and sophomore Jenny Everett are 16th and 19th in goals this season. Van Ruiten leads the Deacon scoring attack with 12 goals on the year, while Everett isn't far behind with 11 goals.
Van Ruiten also leads the Deacons in points scored and assists. She currently ranks tenth in the NCAA and fourth in the ACC with 31 points. Van Ruiten has also dished out seven assists this season. Everett is 20th in country with 24 points this season.
Junior Meaghan Nitka has proven to be one of the nation's best goalkeepers, ranking among the top five in both goals against average and save percentage. Nitka's save percentage of .8814 ranks her third among NCAA Division I goalies. Her goals allowed average of 0.8814 is fourth best in the country. Nitka has tallied 104 saves this season, 13th most among the NCAA leaders. She also has four and one-half shutouts during 1998.
The 16th-ranked Deacons will travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 24, to take on conference rival and second ranked Virginia. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
