Women's Golf Eighth at Lady Tar Heel

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's golf team improved its play over the first day and moved up two places in the team standings to eighth after 36 holes of play at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. The 54 hole event is being contested at the 6,075-yard, par 72 Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, NC.
The Demon Deacons finished with a team round of 303 on Saturday to stand at 316-303=619 after the first two rounds of play. That total puts them 48 shots behind the pace of team leader Duke at 290-281=571, or five-under par. The Blue Devils' Candy Hannemann is the individual leader after firing a five-under par 67 on Saturday to stand at 72-67=139.
Leading the Deacon individuals in the field is sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) who is one of five players tied for 15th place after carding her second straight 75 to stand at 75-75=150. Joining Prieto in the tournament's top 30 is junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN) who after struggling on Friday came back to shoot a 74 in the second round and is in a four-way tie for 26th place at 81-74=155. The remaining Wake Forest competitors include freshman Kate Brenny (Little Falls, MN) and senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) who shot identical scores of 80-77=157 in the first two rounds and are among nine players tied for 33rd place. Rounding out the Deacon contingent is freshman Camille Lee (Orlando, FL) who is tied for 54th place at 83-79=162.
The Lady Tar Heel Invitational continues tomorrow with the third and final round of play.
