The Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons were in contention after 36 holes of play at the
SMU/OSU Challenge in Palos Verdes, CA, but struggled in the final round of
play to finish 11th out of 18 teams in the event at 306-306-324=936. The
Deacs finished 35 shots off the pace of team champion Georgia, which won
the event by 15 strokes over Arizona State. Southern California's Jennifer
Rosales won the individual title with a 3-over-par total of 72-70-74=216.
WFU sophomore Marta Prieto led the Deacon individuals as she tied for 12th
at 16-over-par (76-72-81=229). She was followed by junior Kelly Kirwin,
who finished tied for 38th place with a three-round total of 74-76-85=235.
Senior Kristen Wagner was the next Deacon finisher as she placed among five
players tied for 44th place at 79-78-79=236. Freshman Nicole Faniola tied
for 54th place at 77-81-81=239, while fellow first-year player Katie Brenny
finished tied for 66th place with a three-day total of 80-80-83=243.
Kirwin Continues Streak
Junior Kelly Kirwin is the only Wake Forest player to have competed in
every tournament during her career. After competing in the SMU/OSU
Challenge on February 8-10, Kirwin has now played in 25 straight
tournaments since joining the Demon Deacon program in the fall of 1996.

Injury Report
Both Kerri Murphy and Camille Lee are currently battling injuries that
could sideline them for the remainder of the spring semester. Murphy, a
junior who missed the fall season with mono, is suffering from a problem
with the sciatic nerve in her back and is currently listed as week-to-week.
Lee, a freshman who played in every fall event, has been diagnosed with
carpal tunnel syndrom e. A decision on whether Lee will require surgery
will be made next week. These injuries, along with the recent departure of
senior Trina Casburn from the team, leaves the Deacons with only six
available players on the active roster entering this weekend's tournament
in the Dominican Republic.
