Field Hockey Players Collect Honors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its Division I Regional All-Americans and National Academic Squad late Monday evening. Sophomore Jenny Everett was named to the All-South first team as well as the National Academic Squad.
Selected to the All-South second team were: juniors Kelly Malinoski, Amy Marchell and Meaghan Nitka. Joining Everett on the National Academic Squad are sophomore Lizzy Hechenbleikner, junior Samantha Rush and Marchell. Everett was second on the team in scoring with 27 points and goals with 12. Everett recorded two hat tricks this season, including a four-goal night against Appalachian State. Her 3.89 GPA was also worthy of academic honors.
First team All-ACC goalkeeper Meaghan Nitka was an All-South second team pick. Nitka led the ACC in save percentage with .848 mark and was second in goals against average, holding opponents to 1.27 goals per game. Nikta was also selected to the ACC All-Tournament team.
Marchell and Malinoski were also honored for their on the field performances. Both players scored six goals each, while Marchell was three better in the assists department, dishing out five. Marchell also received recognition for her efforts in the classroom, posting a 3.59 GPA. Rush and Hechenbleikner each posted GPA's of 3.30 or better. Rush had two goals and six assists to go along with her 3.30 GPA this season. Hechenbleikner's 3.57 GPA and two assists were also honored by the academic voters.
