Field Hockey Team Member Named to NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Lisa Andries (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich), a junior on the Wake Forest field hockey team, was one of over 370 student-athletes selected to participate in the 1998 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference, to be held May 25-28 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Andries was selected from more than 850 nominations from NCAA member institutions, including those that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. She is a three-year letterwinner on the Wake Forest field hockey team, having started in the Demon Deacon backfield for the past two seasons.
The 1998 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference provides the opportunity for student-athletes to discuss and explore critical issues facing their peers around the country; to enhance leadership skills; and to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, and communities. This year's topics include: coaching roles in intercollegiate athletics, perception and portrayal of student-athletes by the media, and communication and leadership skills for student-athletes related to their sports, campuses, and communities.
Conference speakers include: Robin Roberts, anchor and sports commentator for ABC and ESPN; Cedric W. Dempsey, executive director of the NCAA; and Quinn Buckner, ESPN sports commentator/color analyst and member of the 1976 NCAA Division I men's basketball championship team.
