The Seminole Classic
Wake Forest is back in action this Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9-10, at
Florida State's Seminole Classic. The 54-hole event will be contested at
the Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, FL, and features a field of
16 teams, including three teams ranked in the Mastercard Top 25 and four
ACC squads (Wake, FSU, UNC, and NC State).
Last Time Out
Wake Forest struggled in the final round to finish 13th of 18 teams at the
Puerto Rico Classic on Feb 21-23.
Three Deacs shot in the 80s on the final day as Wake finished at 34-over par (898), 68 strokes back of team champion Clemson.
Senior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) turned in a career performance, however, shooting a career-low 212 (71-72-69) over 54 holes to place 12th individually at 4-under par. Capone finished one stroke out of the top 10 and seven strokes behind the tournament co-champions.
Senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) finished 43rd at 8-over par, while senior Thomas Parker (Laurinburg, NC) placed 66th at 16-over. Freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) and senior Juan Vizcaya (Madrid, Spain) both tied for 70th place at 18-over par.
Head Coach Jerry Haas
Jerry Haas is in his second season as head coach of the Demon Deacons,
after having taken the reins of the Wake Forest program in September of
1997. A 1985 graduate of WFU and a four-time collegiate All-American, Haas
played nine years of professional golf, including four years on the PGA
Tour, before returning to his alma mater as a head coach.
