WINSTON-SALEM, NC -

Three Wake Forest tennis players have been named to the 1998 All-Atlantic Coast Conference tennis team, as selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. Junior Myles Clouston (Durban, South Africa) was represented from the men's squad while senior Lule Aydin (Coopersburg, PA) and freshman Mariel Verban (Bloomington, IL) were selected from the women's team.

Verban was also selected as the league's Rookie of the Year, becoming the first player in school history to earn that honor. She was the co-champion with doubles partner Aydin at the No. 2 flight in conference play. Since joining he Demon Deacon program in January, she has compiled a 22-8 singles record, including a 18-7 mark in dual matches. Verban is currently ranked #61 in the ITA Collegiate Rankings.

Aydin earned all-ACC honors for the second consecutive year after posting a team-high 31 singles victories this year. She went 6-2 in league play in 1998 and currently has a career singles record of 99-39. Aydin, who is ranked #92 in singles play, will attempt to become only the sixth player in school history to win 100 career matches in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Clouston becomes the first men's tennis player to earn all-ACC honors since 1994 after turning in one of the most impressive seasons in recent history. He has an overall record of 29-14 and needs just one more win to tie the school record for singles victories in a season. Currently ranked among the top-100 singles players in the country, Clouston became the first player in school history to qualify for the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships last fall. On the doubles side with partner Raul Munoz, he set a school record with a 29-8 mark, eclipsing the previous record of 24 wins in a season.
