WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior first baseman Danny Borrell homered twice, drove in seven runs and hit for the cycle, while the Wake Forest offense tied a school-record with 30 runs as the Demon Deacons defeated Davidson, 30-4, on Thursday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.
With the victory, Wake Forest improves its record to 5-2 on the season while Davidson drops to 6-4.
Demon Deacon starter Scott Siemon (2-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. He registered five strikeouts while walking just one batter.
But the story of the day was Borrell and the Wake Forest offense. Borrell became the first Deacon to hit for the cycle since Josh Itzoe accomplished the feat on March 23, 1995 against Hartford. He finished the afternoon with five hits in seven at bats, including one single, one double, one triple and two home runs.
The Demon Deacons jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. Wake Forest scored at least one run in every inning except the third, capped by a 14-run outburst in the seventh. The Deacs sent 18 batters to the plate in that inning and 12 consecutive batters reached base. Wake Forest tied a school record with 14 runs in an inning and with seven consecutive base hits.
Wake Forest third baseman Corey Slavik finished the game with five hits and two RBI while Dan Conway, Ryan Johnson and Matt Price each homered for the Demon Deacons. Thirteen different players had at least one hit for Wake Forest, including 10 with two hits or more.
Davidson's Andy Demko (1-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs in two innings of work. Wildcat first baseman Stewart Sloan finished the afternoon 3-for-4 while right fielder Ryan Stroker had two hits.
Wake Forest will return to action when the Demon Deacons open a two-game series with Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Hooks Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
