Wake Baseball Shocks No. 1 Florida State, 7-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior pitcher Scott Siemon (6-1) pitched seven innings giving up one run on seven hits and striking out four batters to lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 7-1 victory over the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles at Hooks Stadium.
Wake Forest jumped on top with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Deacs added two runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 4-0. Florida State cut the lead to 4-1 with a run in the top of the sixth, but Wake answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 5-1. The Deacons added two more runs in the seventh and David Bush pitched the final two innings to give Wake the 7-1 upset victory.
Danny Borrell and Chase Voshell each drove in two runs to lead the Deacons at the plate. John-Ford Griffin went 3-for-4 to lead the Seminoles. Jon McDonald (6-1) took the loss for FSU, pitching five innings and giving up five runs on seven hits.
With the win, Wake improves to 16-6 overall and 2-2 in the ACC. Florida State drops to 24-3 and 3-1 in conference play. The same two teams will play again on Saturday with the first pitch set for 1:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
