Demon Deacons Trail Leader By Four Shots At Bryan National

No. 22 Indiana shot a tournament record 288 in the second round to move to the top of the leaderboard at the Bryan National Collegiate after 36 holes March 26.
With a first round score of 305 on Friday, Indiana has recorded a two-day score 593, which also sets a tournament record for lowest team score after 36 holes. Tournament co-host and first round leader No. 11 Wake Forest is four shots back in second place with a two-day total of 597 after recording a 302 today.
Indiana's 288 broke the previous low round record of 294, set by Duke in the first round of the 1998 tournament. No. 25 Mississippi State recorded the second lowest round of the day at 295 and stands alone in third with a two-round total of 599. No. 26 UNC Chapel Hill shot 304 for the second consecutive round for a 608, good for fourth. No. 35 Ohio State is fifth at 609, while No. 20 New Mexico fell from a tie for second into a tie for sixth with Vanderbilt with a two-day total of 611. Florida State is eighth at 614, Louisville ninth at 620, Penn State 10th at 622, and Kentucky 11th at 623.
Tournament co-host UNCG moved up to 12th with a 306 for a 627 total score. Rounding out the 15-team field are Memphis in 13th at 631, UNC Wilmington in 14th at 634, and William & Mary in 15th at 648.
Marcy Newton of UNC Chapel Hill shot an even-par 72 to take the top spot on the leaderboard with a 145 after 36 holes. Indiana's Natalie Tucker tied the tournament record for lowest round with a three-under par 69, and moved into a tie for second with a two-round score of 147. Tucker tied the record set by Furman's Jennifer Hanna in the second round of the 1998 tournament and tied by Washington's Kelli Kamimura in the third round of the 1999 tournament. Also tied for second at 147 are Louise Wright of Florida State (75-72), Katherine Mowat of Louisville (75-72), and Kelly Kirwin of Wake Forest (73-74).
Wake Forest's Kirwin was joined in the top 10 by Marta Prieto, yesterday's individual leader with a 72, who carded a 76 for a two-day total of 148 to tie for sixth. UNCG was led by Lotta Jonson, tied for 25th with a 153 (77-76) and Jessica Fought, tied 36th with a 156 (80-76).
The tournament is being played on the Par-72, 6,237-yard Bryan Park Players Course in Brown Summit. Play will conclude with the final round beginning at 8:30 am March 26 with a shotgun start. Admission is free.
