Deacon Golf Finishes Fourth At Fall Preview

Howey-in-the-Hills, FL - Winston-Salem, NC - Hurricane Gordon blew into Howey-in-the-Hills, FL, canceling the final round of the Stetson Fall Preview tournament and leaving Wake Forest in fourth place with a two-round 603.
The Deacons shot a 303 on the rain-soaked course Saturday to complete their first tourney of 2000. Senior Marta Prieto and sophomore Maria Beautell tied each other for medalist honors, however, finishing with a two-round 146. Both shot an even-par 72 on the first day of play and carded a 74 in Saturday's round.
Sophomore Nuria Clau placed in a tie for 34th, shooting a five-over 77 in both rounds to finish with a 154. Junior Katie Brenny carded a 78 in today's round to finish tied for 50th with a 157. Freshman Deborah Means, completing her first collegiate tournament, finished in a tie for 63rd place with a 159. Means shot an 81 in yesterday's round and a six-over 78 in today's final round.
Duke fired a final round 299 to capture the championship. Duke was led by Kristina Engstrom and Virada Nirapathpongporn, who both finished tied for fourth with a 148. Cristina Baena of Arizona placed third with a 147 after carding a 76 in today's round.
The Deacons will next be in action September 29-October 1 at the SEC/ACC Challenge in Destin, FL at the Sandestin Resort.
