- nearly 35 years.
The Demon Deacons, 14-4 overall and 3-4 in the ACC, has lost all four of their games in the month of January, on the road against in-league competition. The latest setback came Wednesday night when No. 9-ranked Wake Forest fell at No. 2 Duke, 85-62.
The Deacons were shorthanded Wednesday night against the Blue Devils. Leading scorer Josh Howard (14.5 points per game) did not dress because he was suffering from the flu.
Cincinnati, 12-6 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA, saw its three-game winning streak end Wednesday night whe
- the Bearcats fell at home to Louisville, 63-54. Steve Logan, a high school teammate of Wake's Steve Lepore, led Cincinnati with 17 points.
Cincinnati leads the all-time series, 3-0, although the two teams have not met since the 1966-67 season.
Demon Deacon Streaks & Notes
- Wake Forest's four-game road losing streak has come against three nationally-ranked teams -- #13 North Carolina, #12 Maryland and #2 Duke. The other loss came at Georgia Tech (Jan. 13), which continues to receive votes for both major polls.
- The Deacons own a 13-game homecourt win streak, which ties for the 14th-longest current streak in college basketball and ranks as the longest current streak in the ACC.
- Four of Wake's 10 remaining regular season games come against teams ranked in the top 13 nationally. Two other games come against teams that received poll votes (Cincinnati, Georgia Tech).
- The Deacons have held 27 consecutive opponents to less than 50 percent shooting. Duke is the last team to reach the 50 percent mark against Wake (Feb. 22 at Duke). Remarkably, Wake has held opponents to less than 50 percent in 53 of the last 54 halves.
- Wake has won 21 of its last 22 games against unranked teams.
Wake Forest-Cincinnati Series History
- Cincinnati leads the all-time series, 3-0.
- Saturday's game marks the first meeting between the two schools in nearly 35 years.
- The last time the Deacons and Bearcats met on the hardwood -- Dec. 15, 1966 -- Cincinnati came away with a 59-58 win in Winston-Salem.
- The only previous meeting in the Queen City was a 117-87 Cincinnati romp on Dec. 30, 1965. Evidently, that 1965-66 Wake team didn't put a premium on defense. The Deacons surrendered 100-plus points nine times that season.
- The first meeting between the two teams -- Dec. 29, 1958 -- saw Cincinnati beat the Deacons, 94-70 in the Dixie Classic in Raleigh. That Bearcat team featured Oscar Robertson and ultimately played in the Final Four. Despite Robertson's efforts, after beating Wake, Cincinnati went on to finish fourth in the Dixie Classic.
- Wake Forest is 18-12 all-time against teams currently in Conference USA. The Deacons haven't played a C-USA club since beating Louisville, 60-59, in the Sweet 16 round of the 1996 NCAA Tournament.
- Teams currently in Conference USA have been a major part of Wake Forest's NCAA Tournament history. In 1996, Wake advanced to the Elite Eight by beating Louisville. In 1995, Wake advanced to the Sweet 16 by beating Saint Louis. In 1984, the Deacs beat DePaul before falling to Houston in the regional finals. Losses to Marquette in 1977 and Memphis State in 1982 prevented Wake from advancing deeper into the NCAA Tournament.
- Wake Forest's Dave Odom is 0-0 all-time versus Cincinnati. Bearcat coach Bob Huggins is 0-0 all-time against Wake Forest
