Men Take 10th, Women 16th At Pre-NCAA Cross Country

GREENVILLE, SC - The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday morning in the Furman Invitational/Pre-NCAA Meet at the Furman University Golf Course - the site of the NCAA Championships Nov. 19. The Demon Deacon men's team took 10th place out of 36 teams on the 8,000 Meter course and the women's squad finished 18th out of 37 teams on the 6,000 Meter route.
Nathan Sisco led the men's team, taking sixth place overall with a time of 24:27. Sisco, a junior from Lebanon, NJ, finished ahead of all ACC runners. Garick Hill finished 34th in 25:11, Chris Estwanik took 70th with 25:35. Sean Nagorny placed 72nd with a time of 25:36. Eduardo Acosta came in 83rd in 25:43, Philip Wiles was right behind him, running a 25:45 for 85th place and Ted DeVos rounded out the Deacon squadron, placing 108th in 25:58.
Also in action in the open 8K race, Dave Barrett took 24th place with a time of 26:04, Chris Elder finished 39th in 26:26, Brandon Bartholomew placed 162nd with a time of 28:13 and Brian Smith ran a 28:26 for 176th place.
Anne Bersagel led the Wake Forest women's team, finishing 50th overall with a time of 22:11. The freshman from Greeley, CO, has led the Deacs in half of their races. Danielle Coon came in 81st with a time of 22:40. Risa Rutland placed 92nd in 22:49, Courtney Lancashire was 125th with a 23:13, Adralyn Wendel took 153rd in 23:40 and Kara Mullin placed 191st with a time of 24:26.
Also in action in the women's open 6K race, Denise Hefferin placed 49th with a time of 23:43, Nikeya Green and Lauren May finished 79th and 80th with times of 24:10 and 24:11 respectively and Caitlin Dempsey ran a 24:49 to place 109th.
Stanford won the women's race and Sabrina Monro from Washington was the individual champion. Colorado won the men's race and Boaz Chebioywo from Eastern Michigan was the individual champion.
