Men's Tennis Completes Sweep In South Florida

TAMPA, FL - The Wake Forest men's tennis team concluded its final day of competition at the South Florida Fall Classic at the University of South Florida Varsity Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon by sweeping doubles play and winning three out of four singles matches against Jacksonville. The Demon Deacons return home the winners of the tournament after besting Central Florida on Friday, outlasting South Florida on Saturday and then trouncing Jacksonville Sunday. Wake Forest went undefeated in doubles play over the weekend.

No. 1 Mike Murray-Derrick Spice (WFU) def. Ben Birkmann-Andres Rojas (JU) 9-8 (10)
No. 2 Justin Kaufmann-David Bere (WFU) def. Rich Davoli-Kamal El Bouzkouri (JU) 8-4
Singles
No. 1 Ben Birkmann (JU) def. Andrew Simpson (WFU) 6-2, 6-4
No. 2 Justin Kaufmann (WFU) def. Andres Rojas (JU) 6-3, 6-2
No. 3 Derrick Spice (WFU) def. Rich Davoli (JU) 6-3, 6-2
No. 4 Rick Phillipp (WFU) def. Kamal El Bouzkouri (JU) 6-1, 6-1
David Bere also beat Adam Kanaan from Central Florida 6-0, 6-1 in a random singles match.
The Demon Deacons will return to action Oct. 24-28 when they conclude their fall season at the Fall Regionals in Chapel Hill, NC.
