GREENVILLE, S.C. - Wake Forest women's golf holds on to second place after the third and final round of golf today in the Lady Paladin Invitational. The Demon Deacons were four shots behind Auburn, who took the team honors, with 33-over par. The Deacons earn their fourth top 10 finish of the fall season. Individually, the Deacons recorded numerous personal best finishes of the fall 2001 season.
Nuria Clau finished second, recording her personal best of the fall season and her third top 10 finish. Clau shot three-over par (72-73-74=219) to lead the Deacons. Clau's previous best finish was third at the Tar Heel Invitational. Deborah Means stayed at fourth place, tying with three other golfers with seven-over par (75-73-75=223). This was also Mean's best finish of the fall 2001 season. Her previous best finish was tied for 11th at the ACC/SEC Shootout.
Maria Beautell improved ten spots from yesterday, finishing tied for 16th place with 12-over par (74-81-73=228). This was Beautell's best finish to wrap up the fall season after tying for 21st place before as an individual in the Tar Heel Invitational. In addition Beautell shot her best 18-hole score of 73 in the last round.
Katie Brenny made significant improvement from her tied for 54th standing yesterday. Brenny finished up competition tied for 35th place with 17-over par (80-79-74=233). Brenny shot her best 18-hole score of 74 in the final round. Caroline Stetler dropped from her 26th standing after two rounds to tied for 64th place with 23-over par (78-77-84=239).
Auburn took the team honors shooting 29-over par (299-300-294=893). Individually Meredith Duncan of LSU was the top of competition shooting an even score on Sunday (72-71-73=216).
Wake Forest finishes up the fall season peaking at its game. The Demon Deacons will be back in action in the spring beginning the weekend of February 11-13. They travel to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in the TRW Regional Challenge hosted by Ohio State and Southern Methodist University.
