Cross Country Teams Primed For NCAA Regionals

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams travel to Greenville, SC today for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, Nov. 10 at the Furman University Cross Country Course. The men's 10,000m race will begin at 10 a.m. and the women's 6,000m race is slated to start at 11:00 a.m. Thirty-six teams make up the men's field and the women's field consists of 35 teams. The top two men's and women's teams, along with the top four individuals in both the men's and women's races, will advance to the NCAA Championships Nov. 19 at Furman University in Greenville, SC.

The 17th ranked Demon Deacon men's squad is coming off a second place finish at the ACC Championships Oct. 27 in Clemson, SC, where junior Nathan Sisco captured first place and earned All-ACC honors along with teammates Garick Hill and Chris Estwanik. Last year Wake Forest finished third at regionals and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, where the unranked Deacs finished ahead of 11 ranked teams to place 18th.

Wake Forest's women's team is coming off a sixth place finish at the ACC Championships Oct. 27 in Clemson, SC, where true freshman Anne Bersagel led the Demon Deacons for the third time this season, finishing 13th overall. Last year at regionals Wake Forest took second place, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships, where they went on to finish 29th.

The top 25 runners in both races Saturday will earn All-Region honors. Complete results from the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships will be available at FurmanPaladins.com.
