Hickory, NC - The Wake Forest baseball team hammered Appalachian State 18-4 on Wednesday night in Hickory, N.C., at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Deacons scored in each of the first six innings to claim a 13-run lead.
The game was marked by the return of senior Scott Siemon who had been sidelined since March 6 with a shoulder injury. Siemon, a first-team All-ACC selection last season, worked a quick three-up, three-down first inning and earned the win as none of the other five Wake Forest pitchers worked more than two innings.
The Deacons scored one in the first and put four across in the second, with Jason Aquilante's bases-loaded triple doing the most damage. Corey Slavik added to the lead in the third with a solo home run, his eighth of the season.
In the fourth, Carlos Brackley knocked a two-out, two-run single through the left side of the infield that scored Matt Price and Jason Aquilante. The Deacons brought in two more in the fifth on an RBI single by Price and a sacrifice fly by Cory Sullivan. In the sixth, Wake Forest plated three more runs on an RBI double by Carlos Brackley, a balk and a wild pitch.
The Deacons continue swing the bat well, scoring 74 runs in the last six games, all wins.
Wake Forest (25-10) returns to conference play on Friday in Atlanta to face third-ranked Georgia Tech. All three games of the weekend series will be televised on Fox Sports South and on the airwaves on WTRU 830 AM.
