Deacons Remain In Second Place At Bryan National

Browns Summit, NC - The 21st-ranked Wake Forest women's golf squad completed day two of the Bryan National Collegiate golf tournament with a two-round team score of 587, good for second place. The Deacs are 10 strokes behind leader Duke.
Senior Marta Prieto led the Deacons on the second 18, coming through with a four-under 68 for the second best score of the day and the second lowest score in Wake Forest history. Prieto lists in third place with a 144. Sophomore Nuria Clau continued to play consistently, posting a four-over 76 in Saturday's round. Clau sits in a tie for 10th with a 147 heading into tomorrow's final round. Sophomore Maria Beautell has also posted a top 20 finish through two rounds, finishing the second 18 with a 76. Beautell is tied for 13th with a two-round 148. Freshman Deb Means, posting the best scores of her career, will enter Sunday's round tied for 17th. Means carded a 76 for a 36-hole score of 150. Junior Katie Brenny rounded out the Deacon five with a 74. After shooting an 80 in the first round, Brenny is tied for 51st with a 158. Junior Veronica Prado-Lacoste, playing as an individual, dropped her score by six strokes in Saturday's round with an 83. She will enter the final round in a tie for 85th place.
Duke remains in first place, scoring 577 through two rounds as a team. Duke's Candy Hannemann and Virada Nirapathpongporn lead all individuals, shooting a one-under 141 through the first two rounds.
The Deacons will hit the links for the final round of the Bryan National Collegiate on Sunday morning. Tee times are slated for an 8:30 am shotgun start.
