WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The 23rd-ranked Wake Forest baseball team won its second game against Davidson in as many days with a 10-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Hooks Stadium. Senior All-American Cory Sullivan improved his record to 5-0 with six innings of work, allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts. At the plate, Sullivan picked up three hits and scored three runs to pace the Wake Forest offense.
The Demon Deacons scored in the first inning for the sixth straight contest. In the second, Wake Forest scored five runs thanks to RBI doubles by Sullivan and Jamie D'Antona. Two more runs came across on a pair of Davidson throwing errors on an attempted pickoff at first base.
Sullivan started strong on the mound striking out the first two batters of the game and went on to scatter eight hits over six innings for his fifth victory of the season. He dropped his season ERA to 3.66 with his performance.
Juniors Brad Comer and Ryan Lewis combined for three scoreless innings of relief to preserve the win for the Demon Deacons.
Carlos Brackley's stolen base in the second inning was the team's 80th theft of the season, tying the school record for stolen bases in a season. The 1988 team also achieved the feat. The team is also on pace to break another record. The 2001 Demon Deacons are averaging 8.86 runs per game, better than the 1999 team whose 8.74 average is the current watermark.
Wake Forest will go on a 10-day hiatus as the student-athletes take final exams. The next game for the Demon Deacons will be Sunday May 13 against High Point. The game will be played at Hooks Stadium at 1:30 p.m. and will be the final home contest for nine Wake Forest seniors.
