Men's Cross Country Takes Sixth, Women 18th At Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Wake Forest cross country teams had a good outing Saturday afternoon at the Roy Griak Invitational on the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Demon Deacon men's team placed sixth with a score of 250 on the 8,000-Meter course 36-team field. The Wake Forest women's squad took 18th with a score of 462 on the 6,000-Meter course 32-team field.
Nathan Sisco, a junior from Lebanon, NJ, led Wake Forest's men's team, finishing 10th in 24:28.6. Ted DeVos and Garick Hill were about 20 seconds behind him, coming in 41st and 43rd respectively. Chris Estwanik and Sean Nagorny came in at 25:11.3 and 25:14.0 for 74th and 82nd respectively. Eduardo Acosta placed 149th with a time of 25:43.1 and Dave Barrett rounded out the scoring seven for Wake Forest finishing 172nd in 25:50.4. Other Demon Deacons in action include three freshmen, Chris Elder (191st, 25:56.6), Brandon Bartholomew (236th, 26:18.5) and Brian Smith (237th, 26:19.0).
A pair of freshmen led the Wake Forest women's squad for the second week in a row, as Danielle Coon from Gavensvoort, NJ, paced the Demon Deacons with a 40th place finish in 21:56.5. Anne Bersagel was not far behind, taking 60th place with a time of 22:09.0. Kara Mullin came in 91st in 22:29.6, Courtney Lancashire ran a 22:35.4 for 105th, Adralyn Wendel posted a 166th place finish with a time of 23:08.2, Nikeya Green took 176th place with 23:16.1 and Catherine Fortin-Major rounded out the scoring seven with a 23:26.2 for 189th place. Also in action for the Deacs was Denise Hefferin who ran a 23:50.6 for 244th place.
Wisconsin won the men's race and Matt Tegenkamp, a freshman for the Badgers, was the individual champion. Arizona State won the women's race and Sabrina Monro, a senior from Washington, was the individual champion. Complete results from the Roy Griak Invitational are available at www.gophersports.com.
