The National Field Hockey Coaches Association released their weekly poll today and Wake Forest (7-2, 3-0 ACC) held the third spot for the second consecutive week. Maryland remained number one and Michigan held at number two. The Demon Deacons have beaten both of those teams this year. Wake Forest is alone atop the ACC at 3-0 in conference play and is currently riding a six-game winning streak, as well as an 18-game winning streak at Kentner Stadium.
All five ACC teams are in the top 20, with #7 North Carolina, #12 Duke and #18 Virginia joining the Demon Deacons and the Terrapins. The poll has no bearing on selection to the 2002 NCAA Division I Championship field. The first NCAA poll, which determines tournament bids and seedings, will be released on Tuesday, October 8th.
