Men's Golf Places Sixth at The Preview

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Wake Forest men's golf team wrapped up the final round of competition with a sixth-place finish at the Ping/Golfweek Preview. The annual event, featuring 15 of the top teams in the nation, took place at Karsten Creek, site of the 2003 NCAA Championships. The Tom Fazio layout was a par 72 and played 7,290 yards for the tournament.
The Demon Deacons shot a 10-over 298 on the final holes on Tuesday, the third-best team score of the day. Entering the final round in seventh place, Wake moved up one spot in the final standings. The Deacs finished five strokes out of third place and 18 strokes back of team champion, Augusta State. ASU shot a one-over on Tuesday and finished 16-over for the tournament, six strokes ahead of second-place Clemson.
Deacon senior Cortland Lowe posted his second-best career finish, placing 13th overall with a six-over 222. Lowe turned in his highest score of the event, 76, on Tuesday to record rounds of 75-71-76.
Junior Bill Haas tied for 21st with a nine-over 225. Haas turned in the team's lowest round on Tuesday, a one-over 73, and finished with rounds of 77-75-73. Senior Brent Wanner finished one stroke back of Haas in 25th place, finishing the event with a 10-over 226 (76-76-74).
Senior Chad Wilfong tied for 32nd with a 12-over 228 (76-77-75), while freshman Kyle Reifers, competing in his first collegiate event, placed 59th with a 23-over 239 (84-74-81).

Wake Forest returns to action next week, when it competes in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Club in Birmingham, Ala.
