WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team started off the 2002-03 season with a 76-51 exhibition victory over Stockholm Human Rights of Stockholm, Sweden on Tuesday evening at Reynolds Gymnasium.

The two teams were tied 10-10 nearly four minutes into the contest. Stockholm would then cut the lead to five, 21-16, midway through the first half. That would be the closest the visiting team would get for the rest of the night. From there, the Demon Deacons went on a 16-0 run and led 47-19 at the break. Wake Forest never let its lead dip below 23 points for the remainder of the game, finishing with the 25-point win.

Wake senior Tiffani Listenbee (Clinton Township, Mich.) posted a double-double with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. She was one of three Deacs in double figures, followed by junior Eafton Hill (Boone, N.C.) with 15 points and senior Heather Miller (Bassett, Va.) with 11. Miller was seeing her first action in over a year, as she missed the entire 2002-03 season with an injury. Junior Tonia Brown (Roanoke, Va.) led Wake in assists (7) and steals (5) while also pulling down eight rebounds and scoring seven points.

Wake Forest outrebounded Stockholm, 55-25, and tallied 16 steals. After shooting over 51 percent in the first half, the Deacs cooled down in the second stanza, finishing the night with a 42.0 percentage from the floor. Wake also slowed down from behind the arc after the break, going 0-of-8 after shooting 7-of-13 from three-point range in the first half. The visitors shot 36 percent from the floor (16-of-45) and were 3-of-13 in three-pointers.

"I was really pleased with our defensive intensity, especially in the first half," said Wake Forest head coach Charlene Curtis. "We talked about dictating the game with our defense, and I think we did that in the first half. Now, we just need to work on putting two halves together."

The Wake Forest women's basketball team opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 22 when they face La Salle in the opening game of SMU??s Hoops for the Cure Tournament in Dallas, Texas. The 2002-03 home opener is Tuesday, Nov. 26 versus Marshall. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
