Wake Forest opened its exhibition play with a 90-55 victory over visiting Latvian team called Gulbene Buki on Thursday at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

Josh Howard led the Deacons with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hampered by severe shin splints in the postseason, Howard came off the bench and played 19 minutes.

Vytas Danelius posted a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

The Deacons raced out to a big early lead and took a 46-17 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Wake Forest forced 21 turnovers and limited Gulbene Buki to just 32 percent shooting.

Five Deacons finished in double figures including Howard, Danelius, Justin Gray (13), Trent Strickland (11) and Taron Downey (10).

Former Missouri Tiger Johnnie Parker accounted for nearly half of the poitns for the Latvia-based team. He had 23 points before fouling out.

Wake Forest has one final tuneup on the exhibition schedule. The Deacons host EA Sports on Monday at Joel Coliseum.
