
Men's Basketball Beats Up On Yale, 73-61

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Josh Howard scored 18 points to lead five Wake Forest players in double figures in a 73-61 victory over Yale on Wednesday.
The Demon Deacons (1-0) led by as many as 18 points in the second half. Freshman Eric Williams had 14 points and four steals in his debut.
Taron Downey also scored 14 points and sophomore forward Vytas Danelius added 13 points and seven rebounds for Wake Forest.
Edwin Draughan led the Bulldogs (0-2) with 20 points and was the lone player on his team in double figures.
The Demon Deacons got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-0 before Howard caught fire and helped ignite a 24-7 run over 10 minutes of play in the first half.
A 9-0 spurt by the Demon Deacons in the second put the game away with 6:08 left. During the run, Trent Strickland converted a 3-point play.
Wake Forest shot 52 percent in the first half, including 5 of 9 on 3-pointers, and wound up 44 percent for the game. The Bulldogs shot just 39 percent in the first half and 42 percent for the game. Yale was outrebounded 40-31.
