WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's tennis teams both open their dual match seasons this weekend with a pair of matches each at the Indoor Tennis Center. The Demon Deacon women are ranked 13th and the men are 23rd.
Wake Forest's men, coached by Jeff Zinn, host No. 71 East Tennessee State on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and No. 69 Old Dominion at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wake Forest's women, coached by Brian Fleishman, host Yale at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and No. 47 Indiana on Sunday at noon.
The women's season opener against Yale will be a reunion of sorts. Second-year Bulldog head coach Chad Skorupka is a former Wake Forest assistant that coached under Fleishman from 1999-01. Yale assistant coach Maren Haus, is a 2002 graduate of Wake Forest and played for Fleishman from 1999-02 and was teammates with current Demon Deacon assistant coach Janet Bergman, who also played under Fleishman from 1999-02.
The Demon Deacon men's squad is coming off a successful showing at the ACC Indoors two weeks ago - an annual tournament hosted by Wake Forest. David Loewenthal won the singles draw and was a doubles finalist with partner Trent Brendon. Senior David Bere became the program's all-time singles wins leader when he beat his first round opponent for his 90th career victory.
