Winston-Salem, NC - Holding steady at #1, the Wake Forest Field Hockey team (9-0, 3-0) hopes to extend its 28 game winning streak this weekend. After beating ACC opponents, the #2 ranked Tar Heels and #3 ranked Terrapins last weekend, the Demon Deacons face two challenging non-conference opponents this weekend. They'll play Boston University (6-3, 1-1) at 1:00 pm on Saturday and Appalachian State (7-2) at 4:00 pm on Sunday, both at Kentner Stadium.
In their only previous meeting, Wake Forest beat the Terriers 1-0 at Boston on October 30, 1999. Senior midfielder Celeste Hubbard, who scored her first career hat trick in Wednesday's victory over Albany, leads the Terrier Squad to Winston-Salem on Saturday.
Appalachian State and Wake last faced one another on October 13, 2002, when the Deacs pocketed the 10-1 victory. Overall the Deacs lead the series 22-15-1. After blanking Radford in Wednesdays match up, first year head coach Mandy Latz and the Mountaineers look for their first victory against the Deacs since October 24, 1991.
Head Coach Jennifer Averill is "really proud of the way the team stepped up to the challenge last weekend. They maintained their focus and intensity throughout both games and in practice this week. We're still growing and learning from each game and each day." The Deacs look to build on these learning experiences at Kentner this weekend.
