Demon Deacons Roll Past Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, FL.-The Wake Forest volleyball team defeated Florida State, 3-1 Saturday night at Tully Gym in Tallahassee, Florida. This victory improves the Demon Deacons to 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the ACC while the Seminoles fall to 9-7 and 1-3.
The Deacs were led by sophomore Erin Borhart who did something rarely seen in a volleyball match- Borhart had 14 kills, 37 assists and 13 digs which gave her the first triple-double of her career. Borhart also had a match-high .435 hitting percentage.
Wake Forest won game one decisively by a score of 30-18. The Deacs fell behind early, but took a 15-10 lead thanks to nine straight points on the serve of Valerie Rydberg. This would be the turning point in the first game, as the Demon Deacons never looked back.
The second game was a back and forth battle which saw the score tied at 20, but the Seminoles won ten of the next 17 points to take game two, 30-27.
The Demon Deacons got on a roll in the third game and never looked back. Wake Forest hit .364 and took this game by a score of 30-19 and continued to cruise right through the fourth and final game as they finished off Florida State, 30-23.
Rydberg also contributed with a strong match for the Demon Deacons, putting away a match-high 15 kills to go along with 19 digs, eight assists and six service aces. Christy Williams, Jessica Hauff and Kim Stern also combined for 24 kills.
Wake Forest returns home to host two ACC opponents next weekend at Reynolds Gymnasium. The Demon Deacons will take on #5 Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. on Friday evening before hosting the Clemson Tigers on Saturday at 6 p.m.
