Men's Golf Finishes 11th at Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - For the second straight year, the Wake Forest men??s golf team posted an 11th-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic. The three-day, 54-hole event took place at the par 72, 7,010-yard layout at The Farm.
The Demon Deacons, who were 14th after the first round and 12th after 36 holes, moved up one more spot in the standings after a two-under par 286 in the final round. It was WFU??s best 18-hole score of the season thus far.
Florida overtook second-round leader Clemson to capture team champion honors with an 11-under 853. The Tigers tied for second with Texas at six-under par. Wake Forest finished the event with an 18-over 882, just one stroke back of ninth-place finishers Tennessee and Auburn.
Wake Forest senior Bill Haas finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the individual standings with a six-under 210 for the tournament. Haas posted a three-under 69 for the second straight day after opening with an even 72. He finished seven strokes back of individual medalist Jason Hartwick of Texas who carded a 13-under 203. Hartwick??s nearest competitor was Eirik Johansen of South Carolina at eight-under par.
In eight rounds played so far this season, Haas has been even or under par in six.
Speaking of subpar scores, WFU sophomore Kyle Reifers carded a career-best 68 on Sunday. After opening with rounds of 80 and 74, Reifers?? four-under on the final day vaulted him 25 spots in the standings, from 67th to 42nd. Reifers finished the tournament at six-over 222.
Freshman Chad Wilcox recorded a 75 on Sunday to finish at 10-over 226 for the tournament (73-78-75) and tie for 60th place.
After shooting a one-under 71 on Saturday, freshman Sean Moore struggled in the final round, posting an 80 and finishing tied for 71st at 14-over 230.
Junior Doug Manchester rebounded from an 84 on Saturday to post a 74 in the final round, his best 18-hole score of the season. Manchester tied for 83rd at 22-over 238.
The Wake Forest men??s golf team returns to action next week, traveling to Birmingham, Ala. for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Oct. 13-14.
