The Wake Forest men's golf team heads to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the final event of the fall season, the Collegiate Match Play Championship. Sixteen of the top teams in the country are competing in the event, which takes place at Barefoot Resort.

The Demon Deacons, ranked 14th in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) poll, will face sixth-ranked Oklahoma State in a first-round match on Friday, Nov. 7. The winner will play the UCLA-NC State match winner, while the losing team will continue in a consolation bracket.

Leading the Deacon contingent is senior Bill Haas, who is currently the nation's No. 1 golfer in the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. Other Deacons competing in the event include junior Doug Manchester, sophomores Kyle Reifers and Barr Blanton, and freshmen Sean Moore and Chad Wilcox. Teams compete with six players in match play.

Live scoring and results from the Collegiate Match Play Championship will be available on the internet at www.collegiategolf.com or www.golfstat.com.

Notes from the Deacons' fall season:
* Bill Haas has won two of the four tournaments he's played in this fall, bringing his career total to seven collegiate titles. He currently ranks third all-time at Wake Forest in collegiate events won, behind Gary Hallberg's nine (1977-80) and Curtis Strange's eight (1974-76). He entered this fall tied with his father, Jay (1973-76), and Lanny Wadkins (1969-71), who both had five victories while at WFU.
* Haas, the No. 1 college golfer in the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, has counted 100 percent of his rounds toward team totals, finished among the top 12 in all four events, while 82 percent of his rounds have been equal or under par.
* Haas' 18-under 195 at the Jerry Pate National (63-66-66) was a new career low, and is the lowest tournament score by a Deacon golfer since Chris Kite shot a 21-under 195 at the 1986 Chris Schenkel. His first-round 63 at the Jerry Pate was the lowest single-round score by a Deacon golfer since Todd Lynch fired a 63 at the 1996 Taylor Made Red River Classic.
* Haas has turned in six consecutive rounds equal or under par, and brings a streak of five straight rounds in the 60s into this weekend's matchplay event. That streak breaks his previous school record of four straight rounds in the 60s set in the spring of 2002.
* The Deacs have competed this fall with their youngest lineup in years, as a senior, sophomore and two freshmen have played in all four tournaments thus far. The fifth spot has been filled by a different player in each event. In addition to Haas, sophomore Kyle Reifers and freshmen Sean Moore and Chad Wilcox have seen action in all four events.
* Reifers recorded a career-low 66 at the Jerry Pate, finishing with a six-under 206 (also a career-low). He put together three straight rounds in the 60s earlier this fall.
