Postgame Notes

  • Wake Forest started two different players than it did in Monday's exhibition opener. Freshman Chris Paul started in place of Taron Downey and junior Vytas Danelius started instead of freshman Todd Hendley.
  • Wake Forest had huge rebounding advantages in both exhibition games. The Deacs out-rebounded Monday's opponent, EA Sports, 50-30.
  • Had this been a regular season game, Joe Crispin's eight three-point field goals would have tied a Lawrence Joel Coliseum record for three-point field goals made in one game. That record is currently held by Virginia's Curtis Staples, who made 8-of-15 threes on Jan. 27, 1998 vs. Wake Forest.

Quoting Head Coach Skip Prosser
"Their three-point shooting tells the story. We have to do a much better job defending the three. This game exposed a lot of it and we'll look at the tape and go from there."

"When we look at the tape we'll see screening. Cutting wasn't good enough and we missed a bunch of shots. We'll keep working to get better."

"We didn't guard in the first half and didn't run our offense in the second half. We didn't get anyone in front of Donte Quinnine at the end of the game."

"We just weren't efficient enough."

"Chris Paul is a growing process. He'll continue to learn just like the rest of the team."

"These exhibition games are just that, exhibitions. It affords us a lot of team building experiences."

"We have three days to go play a very good opponent and we will do everything we can to get ready."

Quoting Guard Chris Paul "At the end Coach told us to take it to the rim. I just went as far as I could and put up a shot."

"Coach told us to keep fighting and fighting and we took the lead until the very end."

"Any loss is real tough but we were able to fight back and that was good. It's going to be a big game Thursday at Madison Square Garden. We just can't get caught up in the hype. We need to play just like we are in the Miller Center."

"Taron Downey is a great player. It's basically impossible to fill his shoes. He is the vocal leader of this team."

Quoting Guard Justin Gray
"We had a hard time finding our rhythm in the second half. They stepped up each time and hit a big shot. Those threes are a dagger. Their first half (shooting) was unbelievable, but in the second half we did a better job defensively."

"Taron has more experience than anyone else. He is our floor leader and we missed him a lot tonight."

"Chris did a good job. We needed a spark and he gave that to us. He made a huge bucket at the end."

Quoting AIA Head Coach John Farwell
On Wake Forest
"Wake Forest has a tremendous basketball team. Wake plays so hard and go to the rim so hard. They just do everything so hard. Skip's teams, which we also played in Xavier, always play until the buzzer. They will be fine. I really think that you guys can go very far. They have such a solid and deep team."

"Indiana was a different type team. They had a one headed monster in Bracy Wright, but with Wake they have so many guys. It is apples and oranges to compare, but Wake will be fine. This loss will probably actually help them."
