Minneapolis -- The 7th-ranked Wake Forest baseball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night with a 6-0 loss to 18th-ranked Nebraska at the Dairy Queen Classic in the Metrodome.
The Deacons (5-2) dug themselves a deep hole by allowing five runs in the third inning. The Cornhuskers (6-2) started the frame with four straight hits and eventually sent 10 batters to the plate.
Wake Forest had few quality scoring opportunities as Nebraska starter Brian Duensing (3-0) kept the Deacon hitters off the bases for most of the night. Wake Forest put just two runners in scoring position all night.
The team's best scoring chance came in the fourth inning when Ryan Hubbard led off with a double down the left field line. Jamie D'Antona followed with an infield single deep in the hole at shortstop, putting runners of first and second with nobody out. However, the next three Deacons were retired in order to end the threat.
Hill took the loss for the Deacons (1-2). He pitched three innings, allowed five runs, four earned on 10 hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Brian Bach was effective for Wake Forest out of the bullpen. He threw six innings of relief, yielding just one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Offensively, D'Antona led the way for Wake Forest going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Wake Forest, which had been averaging 12 runs per game, was shutout for the first time since last April at Clemson. It was a season-low for both hits and runs for the Deacons.
Senior Ryan Johnson, who left Friday night's game with an ankle injury, did not play on Saturday against Nebraska.
Wake Forest will wrap up play in the Dairy Queen Classic on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. central time against 14th-ranked Notre Dame. Sophomore lefty Tim Morley will make the start for the Deacs.
