Winston-Salem, NC -- The 28th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated Furman, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons won all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead and then swept singles play to finish off the Paladins.
Mike Murray and Trent Brendon teamed up to defeat James Cameron and Ryan McCarthy, 8-5, at the No. 1 doubles. D.J. Spice and David Bere took on Andrew Rogers and Ben Piruluhn, winning at the No. 2 doubles, 8-6. At the No. 3 doubles, David Loewenthal and Brett Ross overpowered Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons, 8-3.
Loewenthal, Murray and Ross picked up straight set victories in singles, while Spice, Bere and Brendon won in super tiebreakers.
With the victory, Wake Forest improves to 7-4 overall. The Demon Deacons return to action on Saturday, Mar. 22, facing #38 Virginia at 1:00 pm in Leighton Stadium.
